Shincheonji Philip volunteers,
the ceremony for veterans
as to commemorate
the 70th National Liberation day



 

The ‘Love of country, Sharing peace’ event was held in Mangsang beach located in East Sea, Gangwondo on the 15th of this month, which was the seventieth National Liberation day of Korea. The event was organized by Shincheonji Philip volunteers in order to express a gratitude to the patriotic martyrs and war veterans of the Korean War.

Around 1,200 people including East Sea regional veterans’ organizations (War Veterans union, Widows union, Disabled Veterans union, Distinguished Military services union) had attended the ceremony as to commemorate the National Liberation day.

Dugyun Shin of East Sea disabled military services Regional VP and a master of Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism Jeon-dam Seongwon Temple delivered a congratulatory speech during the opening ceremony.

The photos taken during the Korean War were exhibited to remind the attendees the pain caused by war and revive the importance of unification of the North and the South. Drum performance, Korean martial arts, Korean harp chorus, junior cheerleading and students dancing were all performed during the ceremony.

There were making national flower and flag pinwheel, making a fan, thumb printing a national flag and Tuho(Korean traditional game) experience booth for various activities. The Philip volunteer prepared invigorating food especially to show gratitude to the war heroes who had given their life for the country.

 
 


“I am grateful to the Shincheonji volunteers for inviting me to such a great event. I think such a meaningful event like this one should be held every year”. Regional VP Shin said, during the opening speech.

The master of Jeongdam temple said“ I attended this ceremony to tear down the war between religions and the volunteers have set a good example to many through this event. I learned about Chairman Manhee Lee in the peace emissary booth. The chairman has a great passion towards the world peace movement, I was very amazed”.

“When I was seventeen years old, I was able to get away from being sent to the Japanese military to serve as a comfort woman by marrying my current husband. However, all of my friends had been forcefully sent away and I do not even know whether they are alive or not now” Kim (Age 88), who was born in the East Sea region, said with teary eyes.

A leader from the Philip volunteers said “I thank the regional veterans’ organization for helping us organize this event on the seventieth National Liberation Day with the war veterans who gave their life for the country. This will not stop as a simple ceremony, but we will continue to make efforts to alert the future generations about the necessity of peace through experiencing the pain of war”.

An authority from Shincheonji church said “I wish that all of the citizens who participated in the event to be more aware of the Liberation of the country and be more concerned about the peace in the Korean peninsula and in the world”.
